Sabah International Convention Centre opens its door to public via MCO-themed exhibition.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah International Convention Centre opens its door to public with a three-day exhibition dubbed #MASKED: Making peace with our limitations.

The centre chief executive officer Datuk Rosmawati Lasuki said that the three-day exhibition starting today also aims to highlight creative arts among the local communities.

“The idea of this exhibition stemmed from Tina Goh (the centre’s marketing communications and public relations director) to open the centre to the public through this exhibition.

“During the lockdown, with a new world with new normals, it creates artists. It is all about creative expression, even rubbish is turned into artworks” she said, adding that the first major event is also meant to inform that the centre, which is equipped with high technology of temperature screening facilities, is open to the public and businesses.

Rosmawati also added that some of the exhibition, which indicates people being “locked” while animals are free during the movement control order, also sends a message to the world that people should care more about the environment.

Hosted at the spacious hall, the exhibition features about 80 artists including those who are also concurrently displaying their artworks at Sabah Art Gallery until Oct 31.

Event curator Jared Abdul Rahman, who is collaborating with the centre, said that he gathered local artists and community to share their thoughts and feelings throughout the MCO.

A local artist Charles Mawan has one of his drawings titled “Pogo pun pakai mask” displayed to share what happened to him and his 2-year-old pet during the period.

“During the PKP, Pogo had always been with me as it stayed with me at home. I took a lot of time to finish this drawing.

“Apart from this, I have also drawn several artworks featuring birds which are now being displayed at the state Art Gallery,”he said.
