The bustling streets of Sabah are getting a digital upgrade with the introduction of innovative parking apps designed to streamline the parking process and enhance convenience for drivers.
In Kota Kinabalu, which is under the purview of Kota Kinabalu City Hall, motorists used to buy these paper coupons where you have to scratch off to indicate the date, time and duration for you to park.
After that, you need to display those coupons on your dashboard. It became a hassle when you did not have coupons, or you would not know how long you would need to park at that place. For those who need to submit claims, the office would expect to see huge/bulky of receipts attachment.
Luckily, DBKK finally announced that the city would go green for the parking purposes. Starting Oct 16, 2024, the decade-old coupon will be replaced with the Smart Sabah mobile parking application. (Up to August 9, 2024- no further details about the app yet).
Penampang area.
Penampang Municipal Council has decided to use Flexiparking app, which is also used in other states in Malaysia.
It has been enforced since Aug 1, 2024. The rate which is 1.50 sen per hour for yellow box has received many criticisms from many as it is indeed more expensive than Kota Kinabalu rate. However, since the implementation, there are more parking space for the public.
Apart from that, I personally find that the app is very informative about what is going on around Penampang. (For example, the app had notified users about the contactable SOS numbers during flooding. During the severe flooding, many rescue agencies' numbers were unreachable as their premises were also inundated)

Pay and Go app
Pay & Go is a Malaysian Tech Company dedicated to enhancing everyday life's convenience and facilitating swift payments through a range of kiosk payment options and innovative smart city solutions.
By using this app, upon entering, its camera will scan at your car's plate number. Upon exit, it will calculate the amount and give you about 15/30 minutes to leave.
Among the premises that are using/requiring motorists to use this are:
a) City Mall Kota Kinabalu
b) Damai Point Commercial Centre
