KOTA KINABALU: Farina Hamdan is committed to keeping the prices of their popular grilled fish and squid stable, despite the inevitable rise in the cost of living.

The 29-year-old entrepreneur from Petagas, near here, said that the prices of seafood had been steadily rising compared to when she and her husband first started their hawker business five years ago.

"When we attempted to adjust the prices upward, our customers expressed dissatisfaction and were reluctant to make purchases," she explained.

"To sustain our business, we've adopted a strategy of purchasing fish and squid only when prices are reasonable.

"We understand the financial challenges faced by many, so we strive to lower our prices when seafood costs are lower," she added, speaking from the Asia City bazaar.

Farina said that they had maintained the price of grilled squid at RM15, while fish prices range from RM12 to RM25, depending on size.

On average, the couple sells up to 50 fish and squid each night.

According to Farina, customer feedback indicates that their homemade sambal is what keeps people returning for their grilled seafood.

She said the sambal follows her family's traditional recipe.

"We also attract tourists from China and Korea who enjoy sampling our seafood.

"Occasionally, we offer lobsters, which always entices our foreign customers to make a purchase."
